Sexual Assault Survivors Support Program
The Ethiopian Community Center (ECC), through this SA program, seeks to enhance direct and ongoing services as well as increased safety for African immigrants ages 13 and above who are survivors of sexual assault and reside within the greater Washington D.C. Metropolitan area. We aim to facilitate Sexual Assault Victim Services, Advocacy, Awareness, Outreach and Community Engagement by:
Eliminating linguistic and cultural barriers preventing African immigrant survivors from accessing services by developing and utilizing strategic multilingual communication strategies and aggressive targeted outreach.
Provide direct services to survivors through bilingual advocates, and program staff who work to build trust, reinforce coping skills, and facilitate access to crisis intervention and recovery supports through advocacy, referrals, wraparound services, counseling, and support groups.
What kind of support can you get from ECC’s Sexual Assault Program?
Our staff will provide free and confidential bilingual services for survivors. Our services include:
Serving as a primary resource for clients reporting both recent and past incidents
Accompanying the victim to the hospital for a sexual assault forensic exam
Helping with needed support service such as housing, employment, health and immigration related services
Provide translation and interpretations services
Referral to other support services
